a world aglaze

Although the ice is making travel and even walking dangerous, and public schools are closed for the day, from inside a warm house the outside looks alluring. It is as if the whole world had been gently dipped in a soft white sugar glaze, coating the ground, the grass, the roads, the trees, the twigs. It is as if people were dolls placed provocatively, engagingly on the top of a decorated cake, evoking fantasies of enchanted places and lives and meetings - licit and not.
